Roy and Robert compete in archery practice
Destek are extremely proud to be sponsoring Roger Rees-Evans for the upcoming the World Archery Para Championships in Germany. Roger is the father of team member Graham, and happens to be an Olympic-level blind archer.Roger Rees-Evans

Last week Destek held a blind archery event for the team, led by Graham and Roger. The day allowed them to see what it is like for visually impaired archers to shoot a bow and arrow.

After some generic archery training, including types of equipment, rules and how to shoot, all team members tried their hand at the art of toxophily.

After members were comfortable with the equipment and how to shoot, blindfolds were passed around and members were introduced to blind archery, swapping their vision for a tactile sight. After the initial couple of shots, and some sight adjustments, members were hitting the target with varying degrees of accuracy.

At the end of August, Graham will lead a team of 4 VI Archers, including Roger, to attend the World Archery Para Championships 2015 in Donaueschingen, Germany. The VI archers will join 14 other para-archers to form the ArcheryGB team. The competition will take place over 11 days and will include days of practise, qualification, individual and team eliminations and finals.
Many thanks to both Graham and Roger for the incredible experience and the realisation that archery is quite difficult even when you can see. Destek wish both Roger and Graham the best of luck and every success in the competition!
